As with anything else in life, if you’re coming to one of our junior golf camps this summer, the better prepared you are, the more you’ll gain from the experience. And there are a number of things you can do to get ready ahead of your time with us.
Here, we take a look at some of the best ways to prepare yourself before you leave home.
Immerse yourself in all things golf
Read as much as you can about the game pre-departure, either in specialist magazines and/or online. Equally, watch as much of the sport as you can on TV, taking in tournaments played at the highest level where possible. Try to analyse players’ performance, remind yourself of the rules of the game, and chat to other golfers if you can. It may also be a good idea to film yourself playing, to get an idea of where any potential weaknesses may lie.
Learn all about the events you will be attending, such as The Open, before travelling, so that you get the most out of this side of being at junior camp. It’s also worth knowing about who will be playing, since that also adds to the excitement and enjoyment.
Think about what to pack for golf camp
We’ll be aiming to provide a full kit list in a future blog. But think about what to bring with you to junior golf camp. You’ll obviously need appropriate playing clothes, plus trainers or golf shoes and waterproofs, and clothes for the evening and the non-golfing activities. When it comes to equipment and accessories, we can provide clubs – but feel free to bring your own. We also ask campers to bring golf balls, a hat, tees and at least one golfing glove. Even in Scotland, you’ll need sunscreen – as well as your umbrella!
While it may sound obvious, don’t overpack; we know it’s easily done. Be sure to only bring what you need and will definitely use.
Remember to tell us about any regular medication you need to take, and let us know in advance about any pre-existing medical conditions and how these might affect your stay with us. Please also advise us of any special dietary requirements at the same time.
Be mentally prepared
Come to our junior summer camp with plenty of energy and a positive attitude and ready for a highly enjoyable time with us. If you haven’t been away from home before, some apprehension is understandable, but you’re in for a fantastic time. If you’re studying languages, brush up on them. Our guests are international so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practise.
Start seriously looking forward to your junior golf camp this summer. And, of course, if you have any queries, just ask and we’ll be delighted to help.
