Do you know Links golf?

Classic links courses, like the ones in St Andrews, are built along the coastline, on sandy soil and they have a few characteristics:

  • The pot-bunkers: deep and narrow, they can be very tricky to get out from and really, it’s best to avoid them!
  • Their fairways are surrounded by high fescue rough, making straight hitting key.
  • The greens are very large and undulated and some courses, like the Old Course, also have double greens. This means that even if you’re on the green you could still have a 30m putt!
  • The firm, fast and tight fairways: when the wind is blowing, they can be difficult to hold.
  • The wind: The Scottish coastline is often windy, forcing the golfer to adapt and to be creative with his game.
All these challenges combine to give junior golfers the perfect test of their games and helps develop their course strategy and approach out on the course.

A golf camp to learn
& play Links golf

Pot-bunkers, high fescue rough, endless undulating greens, rolling fairways and seas winds… There are many elements, typical to Links courses, that juniors will learn to master during the golf lessons.

Aside from developing their general golf technique, juniors will learn about shot-shaping and trajectory control to help in the wind, long putting to master Links greens and bunker play to get out of any sand trap. They’ll also learn that when it comes to approaching the green on a Links, the bump and run with a long iron is sometimes a better option than using a wedge…

The ideal 2-week golf camp: more golf, more fun

Attending at least 2 weeks of our golf camp is definitely our best recommendation and we find that most returning students come back for 2 or 3 weeks each year. So if your child is keen to improve in golf and English, then the longer they stay, the better. Not only this but, with each week full of the sport we love, time flies VERY quickly and one week can feel too short. It’s possible to mix the programmes and, for example, to attend The Open Camp and one or two weeks of The Players Camp.
